Need Volunteers

The Gloucester Ringette Association thrives only because of the efforts of its volunteers. Their contribution makes possible an environment where our players can strengthen their physical and social health - develop fitness habits and make friends that last a lifetime. Can you contribute?

We recognize that not everyone can contribute the same amount of time and effort. There are many tasks within the administration of the organization that involve varying degrees of commitment. Maybe your schedule will only allow you to contribute ½ hour per week. Perhaps you are able to commit to several hours during one specific event such as the annual GRA Tournament. Maybe Coaching or helping with a team is best suited to your needs (at the rink anyway right?). Whatever you are able to commit - the first step is to let us know. Call us, e-mail us, write us. Tell us what you're able to do. We definitely want and need your help.

Here are some of the volunteer activities that are needed to be filled EACH season.

Tournament Chair,
a multitude of help with the Tournament, (see below).

Convenors
AA Convenor,
A Convenor, and
a Convenor for each division Gloucester enters into the NCRRL:
Novice, Petite, Tween, Junior, and Belle. (see below).

Divisional convenors. These positions are the point of first contact and the communications link between teams at a specific level and the Association. For instance, the Novice convenor services Gloucesters five Novice level teams. Convenors ensure that schedules, communications, and paperwork find their way to and from their teams, and are the first point of contact for team concerns/problems. There is a very limited requirement to attend meetings (perhaps two per year).

You can be trained for any Job! All you have to do is volunteer. Big job, little job; they are all necessary to make GRA work.

The association has a   Registrar   for the past season, but will need one next season. The present registrar is willing to teach prospective volunteers the ropes this season, with a view to taking it on next year. The volunteer in this position needed a computer, and was familiar with spreadsheet programs. Virtually all of this work is conducted at home - and is busy during the mail-in registration period and during tryouts (August and September). During this time the registration base must be updated frequently. There is little requirement to attend meetings. The registrar also attends each of the walk-in registration sessions in the fall.

The association also has a   Statistician   for the past season, but may need in another season. The present statistician is willing to teach prospective volunteers this season, with a view to taking it on next year. Virtually all of this work is conducted at home. This position requires that the individual be available from September to April expending an average of approximately 1 hour weekly, to be set in their own time. Computer access to GRA website, e-mail and voice mail is essential.

Tournament Statistician   Time and willingness permitting, the Statistician is the Statistician for the GRA Tournament in February, although this could be a separate job altogether. This is a very challenging and rewarding activity for the weekend of the Tournament. Attending pre-tournament meetings ensures that all team members are aware of each other's activities. During the Tournament, all game results are tabulated, game reports collected and scores verified. Saturday afternoon and evening game results determine the final playoff games. An ORA representative will be on site to assist.

Other Positions that are appointed each year are: Referee-in-Chief,     Ice Scheduler,    Equipment Manager,     Fundraising Administrator, Webmaster,    Player and Coaching Development Co-ordinator, Promotion and Publicity Director,    Summer Camp Coordinator.   Job Descriptions are available for those positions in blue above.

You TOO can be trained for any Job! All you have to do is volunteer. Big job, little job; they are all necessary to make GRA work.

Each year, we require new members to run for executive positions in order to fill the vacancies created by members completing their two-year term with the association. The election of executive positions is staggered so that only a portion of the positions are up for election each year. This provides for continuity and consistency in administration. Members of GRA attend monthly meetings, as well as serving on committees from time to time. There are nine different executive positions (voting):

Position

President

Vice President Competitive

Vice President House League

Vice President Operations

Vice President Administration

Treasurer

Secretary

Director-at-Large (A)

Director-at-Large (B)

If you are interested in becoming an executive member, or have questions about the roles and commitment associated with each position, please contact any member of the executive, or send us an e-mail. We will be pleased to discuss it with you.

Promotion is an important association activity and one that is essential to the health of the association and the continued strength of ringette in Gloucester. Most promotion work can be performed at home on your favorite software package. This activity would have no "busy" period as some of the other positions might, and the volunteer can arrange their commitment to meet their personal schedule. This is a rewarding activity that pays big dividends in return for a fairly light time commitment. This position is ideal for a person who likes tinkering in desktop publishing.

Coaches, assistant coaches, managers, & trainers are always required to work with our teams. Did you play sports in your younger years? Previously a ringette or hockey player? Coached other sports? Good Organizer? Employed in education? Our players can use your help!! Let someone on executive know if you are willing to help. (The regional ringette association provides technical training where required.)

Troubleshooters, scorekeepers, timekeepers, and other volunteers are required during our annual Interprovincial, Invitational GRA Tournament. Our tournament typically involves approximately 100 ringette teams (1400-1500 players) as well as coaches, parents, and spectators. There are always tasks to perform - ranging from one hour to one day. Can you work the admission table for a few hours (or spell someone else)? Keep score or the clock at a game? Call us! Let us know what you can do?
