Summer Camp Position Descriptions
Recreational Day Camp Director - responsible to the Association executive, will work with all other staff of the camp to develop a schedule and daily program for approval by GCRA and to oversee all camp activities for the week. The person in this position is also the Off-Ice Co-ordinator, directly overseeing off-ice activities during the camps. Preference will be given to applicants with related experience and qualifications. Applicants for this position must be 18 years of age or older. The Camp Director’s position is a two week assignment (i.e. both Summer Camps). The successful applicant must have First Aid training, or be prepared to undertake training at GCRA expense (cost of the course only).
On-Ice Director - works with and is responsible to the Camp Director. This staff member is responsible for developing and submitting to the Camp Director and GCRA, an on-ice program for each of the age levels at the camp (usually three age groups). Directly oversees all on-ice activity during the camp. Preference will be given to candidates with related experience. Applicants for this position must be 18 years of age or older. Preference may be given to a candidate who is able to work both camps.
Senior Counselors - responsible to the Camp Director. There will be a number of camp counselors required to work with the Camp Director and On-Ice Director in contributing to the development and delivery of the week’s program. Counselors may be assigned to either on-ice or off-ice activities, or a combination of both. Staff in these positions may be given responsibility for certain activities or portions of the program for development purposes. These may be one or two week positions, depending upon the number of qualified applicants. Applicants must be 16 years of age minimum.
Junior Counselors - there will likely be two such positions at each recreational day camp. As the name suggests, this is a development position that would be suitable for younger candidates, or for those who have little or no experience in a summer camp environment. Duties will be varied. An honorarium is paid.
