Gloucester Ringette Association 2000/2001Newsletter # 1 - Aug 2000
We are pleased to bring you this first edition of the Gloucester Ringette Association Newsletter for the 2000/2001 season. We hope you will find it useful and informative.
Gloucester Ringette Association Executive
The May Annual General Meeting was successful in planting the necessary seeds to form the Executive Committee for this new season. Now that the executive has been formed, we are now looking to complete the appointed positions (Statistician, Equipment Manager, Tournament Chair and Convenors) to take on the new season. We are now also looking for volunteers to assist in the running of the tryouts in the fall. Please contact any of the executive if you can spare a couple of hours during the tryout process or if you are interested in one of the appointed positions or helping with the tournament.

Check out
www.gloucesterringette.com regularly. You can also check the National Capital Region Ringette League/Eastern Region Ringette Association Website, Ringette Canada and Ontario Ringette Association sites which are linked to our website.
Registration:
The open registration will take place at the Orleans Recreational Complex on August 24 from 7-9pm. We will be set up in the hall downstairs, across from the desk, just outside of the Hall D Meeting Room. Any new registrants, please remember to bring a copy of your Birth Certificate. Proof of age is required when we register players with the Ontario Ringette Association. You will note that the registration form offers a $10 discount for all applications received by August 24st.
Coaching Selection Process:
This tends to be a very dynamic at this time of year. Please check the website for the latest developments. Anyone interested in coaching is asked to contact Rick Williams (Competitive) or Liz Rheaume (Houseleague). (Liz is moving at time of publication, so please inform any of the executive of your interest.) An opportunity is also on the Registration Form to flag your interest.
Tryouts:
Enclosed is a draft of the tryout schedule. (Click here to see Tryout Schedule.) Players wishing to play competitive must attend 2 of the 3 scheduled ice times for a proper evaluation. Please note that no one will be allowed on the ice without proof of registration.
Tween Division:
This year Gloucester Ringette will combine with Cumberland Ringette to field the Tween age level. This particular age level has a relatively low number of participants, making the amalgamation an attractive solution to fielding a full set of teams that are fairly matched. You will note that the tryout schedule does not provide any dates and times for the Tween competitive (AA level) since Cumberland will be providing the ice time. We are currently in contact with Cumberland Ringette to ascertain these dates and all players registered at the Tween competitive level will be contacted and advised of the details. You can also verify our Website prior to the try outs.
Deb A Team:
Last year, GRA did not have a team in the Deb division. This year, we are looking to see if we have the interest to field a group in the Deb A level. With Ringette Canada now combining the Deb and Intermediate divisions to form an Open Division nationally, it is unclear whether this team would be a Deb or an Open team. It is also unclear whether the team would play under the GRA banner or in the Ladies League (GAARA). In any event, anyone interested in playing at what has traditionally been known as the Deb A level, please contact Denise Miller at 837-1585 for further information.
Deb B Team:
GRA is willing to coordinate team(s) at this level. Registration must be received by Sept 1 in order to confirm the team(s) to the Ladies league for play. Ice time will be assigned if there are enough players registered to for a team or teams.
Notice to all Team Staff:
Last season, GRA attempted to achieve full registration and qualification of team staff. Eastern Region has done their part to raise the stakes in the pursuit of this goal. All associations will now be fined $50 per game where the team staff on the game sheet is not registered and/or qualified. This year, we must work harder to ensure that the team staff is fully qualified. GRA assumed a $350 fine for our part in not achieving this last year. The actual fine was in excess of $1000 but some leniency was exercised in our favor. For team staff this year, please check to make sure of your status and register early for the courses needed to ensure that we are clean this year. The team staff must be registered with a team and fully qualified for the team which they are on the bench.
Summer Programs:
The 2000 Summer Program is now in full swing. If you are interested in power skating, please check the website for details.
Comments:
If you have any comments or would like to help in any way, please feel free to contact any of the executive listed above.
See you in the rinks.
