The May Annual General Meeting was successful in forming the Executive Committee for this new season. Please remember that the Gloucester Ringette Association runs totally through the work of all its volunteers. We would like to thank all those who help out, but we are always encouraging new volunteers to join.
We are still looking to fill the following positions to take on the new season: Player/Coaches Development Director; Promotions & Publicity Coordinator; Tournament Chair and Convenors. We are also looking for volunteers to assist in the running of the tryouts this fall and the Gloucester tournament in February. Please contact one of the Executive members if you can spare a couple of hours during the tryouts or helping with the tournament, or if you are interested in one of the appointed positions.
Liz Rheaume is looking for volunteers. Here is a short description on the tasks:
- Sign in Desk - Tasks include signing in players, handing out their numbers and helping answer questions concerning the tryouts.
- Evaluators - To help evaluate players; this would be good for the coaches who coached last year.
- On ice help - To help the on ice director run drills and help out the players.
- Convenors - Novice, Petite, Tween, Junior, Belle - A convenor's job is to help at each of their levels with tryout program, number of players per team, evaluating players, making the teams and answering any questions that parents or players may have. Most of the work is during the tryouts and throughout the season you help oversee your level. This job is rewarding as you get to meet a lot of new people and spend some time with the players.
Registration
In the Mailed Out copy of this Newsletter to previously registered Member you found an enclosed copy of your pre-printed registration form. A blank copy may be printed from here. If any of the information is incorrect, please make corrections in the area provided. The completed form and cheque for the appropriate amount should be forwarded to the GRA Registrar at the address shown. Any new registrants must provide a copy of their birth certificate. Proof of age is requested when registering players with the Ontario Ringette Association.
Those wishing to personally deliver their registration form can do so at the walk-in registration scheduled for Thursday, August 23rd from 7-9 pm at the Orleans Recreational Complex in Hall D.
Finances
As you will see from the enclosed registration form the fees have increased. In recent years, GRA has been in the fortunate position of being able to absorb rising ice and administration costs by drawing upon a financial surplus that arose a few years ago. Members may be interested to know that the total yearly cost to put a player on the ice is over $300. As presented and discussed with the membership at the AGM in May 2001, we are now at a situation where a portion of these rising costs must be passed on to the membership. Even with the increase, our registration fees are still favourable in comparison to other ringette associations in the area, and to hockey.

Merger with Cumberland
As you may have heard, there are discussions taking place between the Cumberland Ringette Association and the Gloucester Ringette Association on the possibility of combining our two associations. In fact, an independent committee has been established to consider such a proposal, and to make recommendations to the executive of both organizations. We want to assure you of a few things.
- First, our (both Cumberland and Gloucester's) primary interest is in the good of the sport and the benefit of our players. We will be guided by that principle in all respects.
- Second, any recommendation to combine our associations would not relate to the 2001/2002 season. Having said that, we have for a few years had agreements with Cumberland to help each other out to field teams at given age levels. These will continue.
- Third, any significant move towards combining can only take place on the authority of the general vote of the membership. We will keep you informed via newsletters and our website.
Interested in Coaching??
Anyone interested in coaching is asked to contact Bob Desjardins (Competitive League) or
Liz Rheaume (House League).
Tryouts
Enclosed is a draft of the tryout schedule. Players wishing to play must attend 2 of the 3 scheduled ice times for a proper evaluation. Please note that no one will be allowed on the ice without proof of registration.
Notice to all Team Staff
Last season, GRA attempted to achieve full registration and qualification of team staff. Although the Association received no fines, a $50 fine per game is charged when the team staff on the game sheet is not registered and/or qualified. In order to build on last year's performance, we ask that team staff verify their status and register early for the courses needed to ensure that the necessary certification is acquired before the deadline in early January.

Summer Programs & Pre-season Conditioning
Summer Program is now in full swing & most camp programs are filled. There are some openings in Power Skating which is an excellent way of conditioning for the upcoming season. Check the website for details or call one of the Executive members.
