On Monday December 23rd 25 girls from the GCRA Novice C2 program got the thrill of their young lives when they participated in the Ottawa Senators Rink of Dreams program. For selling over 200 tickets to that nights Ottawa-Philadelphia NHL game the girls were treated like superstars for the night.
While the coaches were busy tying skates Ottawa Senators players Todd White and Mike Fisher came to the dressing room to wish the girls luck and to say hello. Not sure who was more impressed, the girls, or the coaching staff. (Rumour has it that one Assistant Coach from the Cougars was seen chasing down autographs)
The girls skated on to the ice at the Corel Centre to rock music, had their names introduced before the game and the National Anthem played. With each goal came the Train Horn and the announcement over the Corel Centre Public Address system. It was a night for future Ringette stars to shine. Final score showed the Cougars defeating the White Devils 5-2, however the real winners were the parents who got to watch these great stars.
The Star of the Game for the Gloucester Cumberland White Devils was Ashley Vroom. The soon to be issued video tape will show her making at least 30 stops, including some VERY spectacular saves.
The Star of the Game for the Gloucester Cumberland Cougars was Kimberley Pickup, who scored 3 goals." |
