Team Canada invites 8 players with Gloucester Devil influences to it's Selection Camp for Team Canada 2002.

The excitement is building as Ringette Canada is now one step closer to forming Team Canada. The names of the 66 players who have been invited to participate in a selection camp being held in Winnipeg next week were recently announced. Players who have played for the Gloucester Devils are shown in bold.

Ottawa, Ontario - December 12, 2001 - Ringette Canada today announced the 66 finalists who have been chosen to participate in its Team Canada selection camp being held in Winnipeg from December 19-22, 2001 (see list of players and details regarding the camp below).

The 66 finalists were chosen from 123 players who participated in three selection camps held across the country in October and November. At the selection camp, the coaching staff will have the opportunity to assess the country's top players and determine the 40 players who will then go on to participate in the final selection camp in May 2002. Athletes will be selected based on their ability to perform as part of a successful team as well as on their technical and tactical game skills.

"We were very impressed with the caliber of the athletes and the skills displayed at our three regional selection camps," said Lorrie Horne, head coach, Women's National Team. "We are confident that we have chosen Canada's best to attend the next phase of our selection process and we are looking forward to seeing these players in action and getting one step closer to forming the new Team Canada."

At the conclusion of the final selection camp in May, the team staff will name the National Team, which will have a minimum of one player from each province. Those athletes will then go on to represent Canada at the 2002 World Ringette Championships being held in Edmonton, Alberta, from November 25-30, 2002.
