JUNIOR
PROGRAM - Mid October to March
Saturday 9am Blackburn Arena
First time skaters, those with just a couple
of public skates, or some out door rink experience are welcome.
It is not at all surprising to see a group, who are not quite
sure how to maneuver on skates, or some who have difficulty
getting off their knees in the first session.
THAT WILL SOON CHANGE!!
Starting with beating the fear of the ice
by getting beyond the worst thing that can happen to us on skates,
"falling down". We teach getting up and body positioning
for balance as well as fun games like SIMON SAYS. Over the course
of the program we cover the basics of skating, striding, stopping,
turning, (crossovers, to hairpin turns). Basic skating drills,
relays, games of RED LIGHT GREEN LIGHT, WHAT TIME IS IT MR.
WOLF, keep the children interested and practicing what is taught
in the lessons.
Parents are welcome on the ice for the
first couple of lessons, however you will helmets are mandatory.
You know your children best, some kids will do better with you
on the sidelines, and others might like to have you there for
the start. On the ice you are not there to pick them up or hold
them up, simply giving "emotional support" and "enthusiasm"
are all that's required and kids learn best by example.
January brings some stick handling, passing
& receiving with Ringette sticks and the use of rings. Fundamentals
of stick handling, grip positioning, stance, and skating with
the stick and not leaning on it for support are emphasized.
As well stick checking and shooting can be introduced.
Sticks, compliments
of HOULE SPORT shall be supplied and your registration shall
cover
individual and team photos.

SENIOR PROGRAM - Mid
October to March
Sunday 4pm, Ray Friel Arena
Emphasis in the Senior program is placed
on strengthening and reviewing skating skills, fine tuning technique
and developing some endurance. We will be using Ringette sticks
and rings from the start of the year and concentrating on game
skill in preparation for next year. Passing, receiving, checking,
shooting, some basic positioning, and developing their knowledge
of the rules and theory of game play.
Through drills, scrimmage games, relay
races, and some obstacle course challenges, the children will
develop and improve from week to week.
Following the Christmas break we incorporate
some game play, and will have some "fun games days"
with other local programs. We anticipate perhaps 6-7 full ice
games. We have played against, Gatineau, Clarence/Rockland,
and Nepean in the past. It is possible that we will have the
opportunity for some additional ice time by inviting teams to
our ice, and having a return game on their ice, this will be
up to your discretion as parents.
Last year we managed to have a game during
the ANNUAL GLOUCESTER-CUMBERLAND TOURNAMENT. Very exciting for
all! The kids get the feel of a crowded arena, full of teams
cheering and it was a great success. Very exciting for all involved,
parents included.
This program can provide a great "warm
up" for playing full time next year.
Included in your registration
will be your child's name bar, for the jersey, an individual
photo and team shot

Novice Rec -
October - April
Weeknight practice & Weekend game (schedule to be advised)
At 6 years of age, having attended at least
one year of "The learn to skate program", children
are eligible to play on a league team. Full ice games on the
weekend, with referees, and an additional one-hour practice
during the week.
As always, the GCRA Organization selects
qualified, energetic, spirited coaches. One coach from each
team will be on the ice in addition to the refs. This on ice
coaching helps the kids remember and understand the rules, in
addition to promoting "team play" and "play making"
opportunities.
Each child takes a turn wearing the Goaltending
equipment, and will play all positions to help them learn and
gain appreciation for the game. Emphasis is placed on equal
ice time.
Should you have a child 7-9 and they are
interested in playing ringette, have the ability to skate, yet
haven't attended the learn to skate program, they are also welcome
to register and shall be assessed, and placed at the appropriate
level.
Contact JULIE SIMONCIC (613) 842-4271
for late registration, games will start around mid-October.
Please provide your child's name, address,
birth date, and a copy of their birth certificate.
